Microsoft Sharepoint
SharePoint is a solution for knowledge workers, with which information may be recorded and shared with others. It is a web-based solution, which could also be described as an intranet or extranet. The four cornerstones of SharePoint are:
- Content Management: managing the contents and appearance of the website;
- Document Management: upgrade management, publication mechanism and meta-information
- Forms, lists and workflow: information sharing;
- Knowledge Management, finding and re-using knowledge, with an extensive search function, blogs and wikis.
Besides those four cornerstones, Dynamics AX uses SharePoint as presentation level for the web client. Pylades supplies services for "stand-alone" SharePoint implementations as well as for full Dynamics AX integrated SharePoint implementations. SharePoint is used in Intranet and Extranet scenarios. This implies that we use SharePoint for internal communication and cooperation as well as for cooperation with external parties, that we allow access to a (limited) subset of information in the intranet. Specifically: share documents with the customer and keep issue lists at one central location.
For external communication and outward directed websites, with which design and user-friendliness play an important role, we use the Open Source Content Management System DotNetNuke, based on the same .NET web technology as SharePoint. SharePoint and DotNetNuke are complementary.
We are also partner with three companies that supply important add-on's for SharePoint:
